Choosing a date is the first real decision of a destination wedding, and in Andalusia it shapes almost everything that follows: the hour of the ceremony, the menu, what your guests pack, even which corner of the region feels right. Most guides simply say "spring or autumn." That is true, but it hides the detail that matters, because Seville, the Costa del Sol and Granada behave like three different climates within a few hours' drive of each other.

Below is a calmer, more precise way to think about it, built on the official long-term climate averages published by AEMET, Spain's state meteorological agency, and on how a wedding day actually unfolds here.

Three climates in one region

Before choosing a month, it helps to know which Andalusia you are picturing.

  • Inland, around Seville and the haciendas of the Guadalquivir valley. The warmest part of the region in summer, with the longest, driest season. Spring and autumn are glorious; July and August are genuinely hot.
  • The coast, from Marbella to Málaga. The sea softens everything. Summers are warm rather than fierce, and the season stretches comfortably into October.
  • The mountains and Granada. Higher, drier and noticeably cooler at night. A May or October evening near the Alhambra can call for a wrap, even after a warm afternoon.

Average temperatures by month

The figures below are AEMET's 1981–2010 climate normals for the airport stations of each city, converted to Fahrenheit. They are averages, not forecasts: any given week can run warmer or cooler, and recent summers in Spain have often been hotter than these long-term means.

Rainy days are days with at least 1 mm of rain. Source: AEMET, climate normals 1981–2010.

Two things stand out. The warm, dry heart of the year runs from late May to late September, when rain almost disappears. And the gap between day and night is wide inland, especially in Granada, which is a gift for evening receptions and something to plan around for guests.

Month by month

March and April: green, fresh and lively

The countryside is at its greenest, orange blossom scents the old towns, and afternoons are pleasantly warm. Evenings, however, cool down quickly, and April brings a handful of rainy days, so an outdoor ceremony needs a covered alternative.

Spring is also the season of Andalusia's great celebrations. Holy Week (Semana Santa) fills the streets of Seville, Málaga and Granada with processions, and in 2027 it runs from Palm Sunday, 21 March, to Easter Sunday, 28 March. Seville's April Fair follows about two weeks later and is listed for 13–18 April 2027. Both are unforgettable to witness, but they also mean full hotels, higher room rates and closed streets in the city centres. If you love the atmosphere, plan a welcome evening around it; if you want calm, choose another week.

May: the classic choice

May is, for many couples, the ideal month. Inland highs sit around 80°F, the light is soft and long, and rain is unusual after the first weeks. Gardens and patios are in full flower. It is also one of the most requested months for the finest haciendas, which is why we suggest securing a venue 12 to 18 months ahead.

June: long golden evenings

Early June still feels like late spring; by the end of the month Seville is regularly in the 90s. This is the season of the latest sunsets of the year, when the sky stays light until after 9:30 pm, which suits Andalusia's natural rhythm perfectly: a ceremony as the heat eases, dinner under the stars, dancing well past midnight. Coastal venues come into their own from mid-June.

July and August: the coast, and the night

High summer inland is best treated with respect. With average highs in the mid to upper 90s around Seville and Granada, a midday ceremony in the sun is uncomfortable for everyone, especially older guests. Weddings still happen, beautifully, but they are planned around shade and the evening: a ceremony after 7:30 pm, a terrace or a courtyard, a reception that begins as the temperature drops.

The coast is the natural home for summer weddings. Marbella and the Málaga coastline stay several degrees cooler than the interior, with a sea breeze and warm water for a pre-wedding beach day. August is also Spain's own holiday month, so coastal hotels are busy and should be blocked early for your guests.

September: summer warmth, autumn light

September is the quiet favourite of many planners. The sea is at its warmest, the evenings are balmy, and the grape harvest is under way in the vineyards. The first half can still feel like summer inland, so late afternoon ceremonies remain wise. Demand is high, and good September Saturdays tend to be among the first dates to go.

October: golden and gentle

Early October offers some of the most beautiful wedding weather of the year: highs in the high 70s inland, comfortable evenings on the coast and a low, warm light that photographers love. As the month goes on, the chance of rain rises and nights in Granada become cool, so heaters, a covered space or a lounge with blankets are good companions to an outdoor dinner.

November to February: intimate and quiet

Winter is mild by American standards, especially on the coast, but days are short and rain is more frequent. It suits small celebrations and elopements: a long lunch in a village restaurant, a ceremony in a palace patio, a fire in the evening. Availability is wide and the region is wonderfully calm.

How to choose your month

A simple way to narrow it down:

  • For a hacienda near Seville: May, early June, late September or early October.
  • For a seaside villa in Marbella or Málaga: June through early October.
  • For Granada and the mountains: late May, June, September; bring layers for the evening.
  • For a small wedding or elopement: spring, late October or even winter, when the region is at its quietest.
  • If your guests include young children or older relatives: avoid inland weddings in July and August.

Think also about your guests' calendar. Many American guests will combine your wedding with a longer trip, so a date that sits well with school holidays or a long weekend can make a real difference to who is able to come. Our guide to getting legally married in Spain as an American couple explains how the legal side fits around whichever date you choose.

How we help

We plan the whole wedding weekend around the season you choose: the right venue for the month, a ceremony time that respects the light and the heat, a covered alternative when the forecast calls for one, and a welcome evening and farewell brunch that feel natural to the time of year. If you are still deciding between seasons and regions, our short wedding quiz gives you a first sense of style, guest count and setting. And when you have a season in mind, begin your enquiry; we reply personally.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best month to get married in Andalusia?

For most couples, May and late September to early October offer the best balance: warm days, comfortable evenings and little rain. June is also lovely, especially on the coast. Inland, July and August are very hot and best suited to evening celebrations.

Is it too hot to get married in Seville in summer?

Not if the day is planned around the heat. Average highs in July and August are in the upper 90s°F, so ceremonies are usually held from early evening, with shade, cool drinks and a reception that runs late into the night. Many couples choose the coast instead for midsummer dates.

Does it rain in Andalusia in spring and autumn?

Some. Seville averages around six rainy days in April and October, and fewer in May and September. Rain usually comes in short spells rather than long grey weeks, but every outdoor wedding in these months should have a covered alternative.

Should we avoid Holy Week and the Seville April Fair?

Not necessarily, but plan for them. Both bring wonderful atmosphere, along with full hotels, higher prices and road closures in city centres. In 2027, Holy Week runs from 21 to 28 March, and the April Fair is listed for 13–18 April.

How far ahead should we book for peak season?

For May, June, September and early October, we recommend booking your venue 12 to 18 months ahead, as the most sought-after haciendas and villas fill early. Intimate weddings in quieter months can often be planned in six to nine months.
